Deconstructing Pet Rescue: "Pets are a Lifetime Commitment"

Contrary to rescue propaganda, you are not your pet's slave, permanently indebted to them for the horrible crime of taking them in. Such a concept is totally backwards and antithetical to the purpose of getting a pet.

Pet ownership should be mutually pleasant for both of you. Neurotic pets, or those with extreme medical needs, should not be allowed to dictate their owners' lives. Having a pet should never hold you back from normal hobbies or career opportunities. It's also cruel to keep pets where they're miserable.

I'm not saying to rehome pets on a whim, only that people and pets are not equal. A pet is not a human child. The whole point of domestication is to create companion animals. Pets exist for their owners. People exist for society.
